#MakeItBlue
The Brief
#MakeItBlue was started by the UK events Industry and is now a global campaign. We were asked by the organisers ‘The Crane Event’ to join forces alongside local companies Pink Lamp, Blueshed, JezOs Events, A Cambridge Diary and Oggi Tomic Pictures to show support fro the NHS every Thursday during the first 2020 national lockdown. Each job was pro bono and pre event site visits were not allowed meaning we would mostly rely on estimations and guess work. The theme would need to be based on the colour blue for the NHS, the rest was up to our creative input. We needed to provide the wow factor and it had to spread the message to as many people as possible.
Our Approach
There was such a high demand, requesting to highlight iconic buildings around Cambridge, we decided to prioritse buildings with some link to national healthcare before spreading the message elsewhere. The Royal Papwoth was at the epicentre of coronavirus critical care in cambridgeshire so was high up on our list so when we wre contacted by the Royal Papworth we made sure to fit them in. Other buildings included Trinity College Wren Library, St Johns College Bridge of Sighs, Cambridge Assesment buildings, Cambridge Round Church, Kings College Chapel and many more.
JMPS provided all of the projection elements throughout the project with tother suppliers helping with lighting, crew, and event management. We used a combination of high powered Panasonic projectors, Specialist Projection Mapping Servers and Adobe Creative Suite, delivering a mixture of motion graphics and still imagery. As well as creating our own content we incorporated some nationally availiable videos form the #MakeItBlue campaign and included excerpts from the 1944 ‘Formation of the NHS’ document .
Due to the lack of pre event planning and the fact that most if not all on site support was non existent due staff being furloughed we had to be creative, projecting out of vans, supplying our own genertors where power was not available and bringing a range of kit to site to help avoid unforeseen problems. Across several weeeks of projections the project was featured on the regional bbc, cambridge Independent and we even got a re-tweet from stephen fry after projecting his words onto Queens College which is where he studied.

“We are hugely grateful to the team for organising this stunning display in recognition of the important work that Royal Papworth Hospital staff and other key workers are doing during the Covid-19 outbreak. It has made this week’s Clap for Carers event very special for all our staff.”
Trinity College said
“It’s wonderful to see the Wren Library turning blue in support of NHS staff and essential workers across the UK. I know from my lifetime on the frontline of the NHS and then as Chief Medical Officer how hardworking, dedicated and selfless NHS staff are.
I am proud that Trinity has turned blue and that those still living and providing essential services in College tonight, as every Thursday, have paid tribute to the vital role of key workers in the national effort against COVID-19.”
